West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust WSRHT

Curator – Blue Anchor Museum

The West Somerset Steam Railway Trust is a small charity working in support of the West Somerset Railway. The Trust currently has 83 members and around 40 volunteers with a regular annual income of around £20,000. It is principally dependent on subscriptions and donations (many paid by standing order) to support the work of the Trust in running the museums at Blue Anchor and Bishops Lydeard stations and in restoring original Great Western carriages at Williton. A recent National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant is expanding the educational and heritage component of the Museum work at Bishop Lydeard with a particular focus on young people.

The Trust is looking to appoint a volunteer Curator for Blue Anchor Museum. This is a small Museum on the platform at Blue Anchor Station but with potential for development helping to tell the story of the West Somerset Railway, local social and economic history and maintaining the heritage around a Great Western Railway seaside branch line.

If you think you would be interested in this role, then please contact David Baker Board Trustee who has overall responsibility currently for the Museum. David can be contacted either by email at davidbaker687@btinternet.com or on 07776-388744.

For a copy of the role profile, then please contact Steve Williams Company Secretary on 07748-637209 or at steve@williamsemail.uk

DO YOU:

Gauge Museum at Blue Anchor

We’re looking for volunteer stewards for the Gauge Museum at Blue Anchor Station on running days during the school holidays and for special events.

You’ll have an induction period alongside a mentor, and we’re very happy to arrange part-day shifts.

The role is simple: welcome visitors, share a little about the museum, and work alongside the station staff.

Interested (or just curious)? Please email Ian Camp (Curator) via info@wsrht.co.uk and put “Blue Anchor stewarding” in the subject line.

Fancy getting involved over at Bishops Lydeard?

We’re on the lookout for more friendly faces to join our team, especially as the museum is getting bigger and busier these days!

If Bishops Lydeard sounds like your kind of place, just drop us a line using the same email, but pop “Bishops Lydeard stewarding” in the subject so we know what you’re after!

And don’t forget – you can always support the WSRHT by becoming a member. Just ping us at info@wsrht.co.uk and pop “membership” in the subject line.

Keep up with what we’re doing, follow the Trust on Facebook!
