West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust WSRHT

Appointment of Learning Officer

Posted on October 3, 2018

The West Somerset Steam Railway Trust has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant to improve and enhance the Gauge Museum at Bishops Lydeard station on the West Somerset Railway. The Trust is now looking to appoint a Learning Officer to develop and then implement the learning offer for schools and family visitors to the Museum in association with local educational establishments.

The post is for 12 hours per week for a total of 100 weeks to be applied flexibly according to the needs of the project and will be based at Bishops Lydeard station. This is a fixed term appointment for two years but may be reviewed in the light of progress and identification of additional resources.

Although the post is accountable to the Steam Trust Project Lead, because the Steam Trust is a small charity and does not employ people, the person appointed will be employed by the West Somerset Railway PLC who are a co-sponsor of the project.

We are looking for an energetic, experienced and well motivated individual who can work flexibly with the Trust and its partners together with local schools, families and other stakeholders to develop and then deliver the Gauge Museum learning offer. Ideally, interested candidates will have had some years teaching experience, an interest in railways and railway history, and a capability to work on their own initiative and constructively with individuals from a range of backgrounds.
