The Gauge Museum has been receiving a good number of visitors since it was refurbished. The museum has hosted 4, 625 visitors in the past 3 months (April, May and June).
May’s figures included the Steam and Diesel Gala weekends, so the Trust saw a slight reduction in number of visitors for June.
June was very busy, the museum hosted two school visits of 70+ children for each visit. These sucessful school visits are the result of the Trusts Outreach Program to local schools, which is sponsored by the Trusts Learning Officer. In addition we also had one unannounced visit from Taunton International School, which nearly caught us off balance – the Stewards on duty that day quickly rose to the occaision and we put on a sucessful programme that the visitors enjoyed.
We have looked at how we have been encouraging the sales of mugs, books and guides, this has been improving but more thought will be given as to how we promote these activities more actively. The Trust hopes to continue to build on this upward trend and with the longer summer holiday period who knows where those visitor numbers are likely to reach.
